Reverse Engineering the Amen Break - Score-informed Separation and Restoration applied to Drum Recordings

[Back to Main Page]

On this page, we provide audio examples for the decomposition of the well-known breakbeat “Apache”. This particular breakbeat stems from a cover version of "Apache", an instrumental tune originally written by Jerry Lordan and popularized in the UK by "The Shadows". The first album of "Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band" (1973) included this cover of "Apache", that starts of with the iconic beat and returns to it an uncommonly long drum break in the middle of the song. Please note that we actually separated this breakbeat into 6 components, but mixed the snare drum back together with conga, and bongos for the sake of compactness.
